Quote for the Day:
Primitive societies, which are vast in number and in variety of forms, provide here a fruitful field of observation. It is as much for that reason as because they are primitive that they are important for anyone interested in the social position of women. Unfortunately, no systematic comparative work on this topic has recently been done; and it is necessary, if one wishes to obtain information about it, to go to the sources, the many ethnographic monographs laborious undertaking. That no attempt has been made to bring together the results of modern research into a single study may be due, at least to some extent, to lack of interest, women's status in our own society having ceased to be an acute public issue. However this may be, I beg to submit to you a few reflections on the matter.
