Authorities investigating death of Omaha (Raymond Sexton Jr.) man electrocuted at work

A family is grieving the loss of 31-year-old Raymond Sexton Jr. after he was electrocuted on the job.

According to a police report, witnesses told police Sexton accidentally touched a power line on Nov. 1.

He was on the job for the company Autographix — they were working on the Open Door Mission property.

Sexton was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but later died from his injuries.

Federal regulators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration said they're investigating.

In a statement, Autographix said they're cooperating with authorities and "...will continue to do so until we are satisfied we know how this tragedy came about."

There are so many ways to hurt yourself working around electricity. I did it for years, and I got the natural hell shocked out of myself more than once. I will say that each time it happened, I was doing something that I had been taught not to do. Sometimes, there is pressure to take shortcuts; work on a circuit live, don't put on a bomb suit to change a breaker. You usually get away with shortcuts, but sometimes they just kill you.

OSHA will come in, find the cause of the death and fine the company. If the company is big enough, it won't hurt them much. There will be a bunch of retraining, frequent inspections, and a pledge to do things right from now on. Some time will pass and the lessons learned will be forgotten again. Meanwhile the young man will still be dead.
