And also help people trapped in bad jobs only because they can't risk losing health insurance.

3. This is more about "employment at-will" than healthcare.

Healthcare is incidental to the story, of course, but the ability to fire anyone for literally any (or, effectively, no) reason thanks to decades of the right pushing laws that undermine job security is the real culprit. Without the latter, the former doesn't become an issue in this case. Even with universal healthcare, this person would likely still be without a job and homeless.

Much less any sick time or PTO are non existent these days. Employers rig the system so they can have plenty of cheap labor to take advantage of during holidays or peak work hours. And Good Luck in finding any company to contributes to a 401k or has any good retirement pkg.
My son worked for LOWES for 2 years before being hired full time and then they expected him to work overtime when they needed him but just take time off so he wasn’t being paid any overtime.
Thankfully he found a better place to work later.
I’m still hopeful that workers across America unionize and call for a general strike across the board.
If workers cost them lots of money it would get their attention.
Unions are the answer to many of these problems.

If a group were on strike you were advised not to purchase from a company that was being struck by employees and if you did purchase it became known that you were supporting the employer and not the employee you were exposed to your peers. You might help your neighbor and yourself by honoring that strike. The stiking worker might not need the help of taxpayer money to survive.
