Union says striking electricians have shut down multiple job sites in Seattle region
Electricians who install and maintain fire alarms and other life-safety systems are picketing at about nine construction sites a day in the Puget Sound region.
The workers, called limited energy electricians, are represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 46 and have been on strike since April 11. Union representative Megan Kirby on Monday said that pickets also are occurring at some contractors' offices.
The union is striking against the Puget Sound chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association, which has 67 members plus 100 other companies that work under NECA's contract with the IBEW, chapter executive director Jameson Schwetz said.
Pickets have shut down multiple job sites, the union said. Among the projects that have been picketed, Kirby said, are Vulcan Real Estate's 555 Tower in Bellevue, which is leased to Amazon.
