C&S Wholesale Grocers plans to lay off some 76 workers across multiple states by mid-March, the company said in a notice filed last month with Hawaii state labor officials.

The affected employees, primarily in customer service, work at sites in Vermont, New Jersey, Texas, Hawaii, and New York. Those employees will face a two-week separation period beginning on March 14, C&S said in a Jan. 8 letter to the Hawaii State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

The Keene, N.H.-based grocery company added in the letter that it voluntarily alerted the agency about the job cuts to allow the agency to assist affected workers in Kapolei, Hawaii.

In the letter, C&S notes that the “action is expected to be permanent,” adding that the affected employees are not represented by a union. The wholesale grocer also noted that workers are losing their jobs “due to the outsourcing of certain customer service functions.”
