Fear of homelessness

Anyone else fear becoming homeless? I do. I worked with then ten yrs. Saw a lot. Helped as best I could. Saw good ppl hit a bump in the road and end up homeless.

My Dr told me to reach out to family members to see if I could rely on them. Turns out no. Real slap in the face. Esp from cousin. Thought Id hear don't worry, I'll be here for you etc. Nope. Got a lecture on how mental illness and addictions bring about home lessness. Not having enough money to live also causes it. Believe me.

Today I reached out to FRIENDS who told me we'd figure something out. Friends not family.

especially if the POS becomes president again and cuts Social Security and Medicare.

You're right too, for so many the problem isn't mental illness or addiction that leads to homelessness, it's not having enough money! Housing has become so expensive! If anything I think it's homelessness can cause addiction as people strive to cope with it and mental illness brought about by sleeping on the streets, which wears down people mentally and physically.

I hope your friends can help if homelessness ever looks imminent for you.

I hope that one day the kind of socialism that we need in this country that addresses human needs will develop, and we will all be guaranteed homes, food and health care.

and subsidized housing and start applying. Some have waiting lists (long and short). I belong to caregiver and adults who are alone groups who are looking at affordable housing. Some nice areas have shorter waiting lists but you need to be sure good healthcare and transportation, grocery are nearby. There's a really cool lady living in Washington state around 70 years old that talks about her apartment etc. On Youtube. There are options for you short of homelessness. Don't despair

"Saw good ppl hit a bump in the road and end up homeless."

That's all it takes, one bad run of luck. I have lived out of my car, and the indignity of having to find a place to poop at 3AM is unbelievable. I'm not an addict or a drinker, but I've had to live out of my car before. I don't have any family left living, so that option is out, and as far as my friends, some of them are doing OK, but most of them are only in a slightly less precarious situation than I am...

"Not having enough money to live also causes it. Believe me."

That's all it takes. I am terrified that I'm going to get fired because it's getting harder and harder to be on my feet for 12 hours a day. If and when that happens, I'm seriously in trouble.

Hell, if things don't pick up for me I might have to do so again, and I really don't know if that will be tenable this time. I think before I suffer through that again, I'll just find an alternative solution, if you know what I mean.
