Managing Up

Is managing up a major issue for anyone right now? What's the main reason you have to constantly manage your boss? Disorganization? Incompetence? Ego? Just plain bad judgment? What are your best strategies?

Edit to add: Be careful with details, of course - I don't want anyone to get fired for posting nasty things about your job online. We could talk hypothetically.

I am sorry that I can't help you. I had a bad experience at my last job and have been out of work about 7 weeks.
