Career Help and Advice
Related: About this forumRemote work ...How to get started?
I'm 48 and live in a rural area with not many opportunities. Been working PT and need to get more income flowing so I can LIVE not just survive. Tired of needing help with extra expenses...
Background in Journalism, some web design (not technical) and some graphic design
I am a very good writer, have an online portfolio, though I haven't done much freelancing in the field in a few years...also mostly stories for local papers. But I am a GREAT researcher and can take topics that are complex and break them down well (like City Budget talks)
Been checking the blogging web boards, but it's a bit intimidating. I feel like sometimes my "old school" experience isn't as marketable. I am up to speed with most Social Media, but not much with video, etc.
I also don't want to end up cranking away for 5 cents a word...got my own writing projects I want to finish too.
Would it be set to forget the "creative writing" gigs and just look for some remote data entry or editing jobs?
Anyone have some good websites to look at?
I am just SO over trying to get something locally, when it seems that my age is working against me more & more.
I have skills, just need to find an easy way to cash in on them!!!
Thanks for any ideas/links!!!

(30 posts)Like freelancer.com or uplink.com.
I haven't tried them myself, but I've been looking into it (for computer programming).
It might be a way to get started...

Tried the stupid online survey thing but it really pays pennies if you look at it closely...

(53 posts)LinkedIn lets you search for remote jobs. I worked remotely for almost 2 years during COVID. I hated it. But I am looking into doing it again.
I was laid off in June from my job at a business magazine. Now Im 61 and unemployed, Yippee.
