Guarding account numbers

I shred every piece of paper that has an account number including health insurance ID.

Some come with multiple informative pages that I can just throw away or recycle.

But some have no ID number but one of those 1/4 inch "stamps" that, I think, can be used for Smartphone to scan. Do they really contain identifying info and, therefore, I should shred them, too?

Having already had my identity stolen, I'm extra sensitive now and I just take everything out to our burn barrel and have a nice fire every now and then.

But who knows what the future holds. Please shred all papers with the scans. At the very least, you are just shredding papers that may be deemed necessary in the future but you’ll be so used to shredding them by then that it won’t matter if they add personal information.

Companies do it. Surely governments do it. All this cyber security is not for no reason.

I like disinformation too. From the earliest days of the internet. Keep hackers confused.

'Your information is important to us. We used the best protection. Choose a secure password. Now tell us everything about you.'

Something incongruous about all that.
