Mailed our paper tax return on Feb 6th, got IRS refund in checking acct on Feb 28th
I was shocked to see the over $2000 refund already in checking account. Fastest ever. Wonder if being in NC helped because I read that IRS had a delay in processing returns from 20 other states.
I actually didn't know until yesterday when I checked my account after a friend who also files by paper mail called to tell me that her refund had already arrived for return she mailed on Feb 11. She has capital gains, dividends etc. using multiple schedules.
The prompt refund is fastest ever in almost 50 years of filing. I still file by paper by typing in the forms online using IRS website and printing them out to mail rather than filling out blank forms by hand. We have several sources of income and use a couple of schedules besides 1040. Last year it took several months to get refund which included interest from IRS for being so late.

7 days!
My return is pretty straight forward though. Now that they took away the Per Diem deduction for truckers but increased the personal deduction, I have a somewhat simpler return.
