Osceola Co. teachers resign en masse over Common Core demands

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — More than 20 teachers have resigned or decided to retire from the Osceola County School District in just the past month -- and the district already had a shortage with more than 50 vacant teaching jobs.

The teachers’ union told Channel 9’s Deneige Broom that some of them quit because they're fed up with standardized testing.

Pinellas teachers: We're overworked, students over-tested

Largo, Florida -- Local Bay area teachers upset and they are not alone. It's the same problem many say all districts in the state are facing: They are over worked and students are over tested.

Enough is enough. They say it's time their voices are heard.

It was standing room only at Tuesday night's Pinellas County school board meeting, and lots of teachers were there showing solidarity in red shirts.

Their action speak louder than words.

"It signifies the fact our teachers are a little angry," says Mike Gandolfo, president of the Pinellas County Schools Teachers Association.
