Europes most important court has ruled that protection from climate change is a human right. The judgment will be put to the test in Britain by a climate change refugee who lost his cliff top home to sea erosion.

(6,260 posts)Normal erosion says it is not a good idea. Wasn't, even before global warming.
Add to that building on hillsides that are prone to landslides after heavy rain.

(222,114 posts)I'm in New York, but the guy across the street had a Trump banner on his house in 2020. But guess what? It has yet to reappear - yet - for this election season. I'm sure hoping that the previously deluded are smartening up!

Public resources should first be directed to people whose very existence is threatened by climate change, not just their property.
As a young man I sometimes lived near enough the ocean that I could walk to the beach and swim or surf whenever I wanted to. And I did so almost daily. I wasn't pushed out by rising seas but by far wealthier people who also wanted to live near the ocean.
Every year people die in heat waves, especially elderly people, and those numbers will increase because of climate change. People die in wildfires, floods, and storms related to climate change. The economies of entire nations collapse because of climate change and people are forced to flee for their lives.
Coastal erosion is a threat people can literally walk away from.
Climate change is going to force the relocation of entire communities, even entire cities. If we can't figure out how to accomplish that gracefully there will be chaos.
