These projects will advance critical elements of hydrogen fueling infrastructure, develop and demonstrate hydrogen-powered container-handling equipment for use at ports, and improve processes essential to the efficient, timely, and equitable deployment of hydrogen technologies. Among the selected projects are innovative, first-of-a-kind efforts to improve community engagement and ensure the benefits of the clean energy revolution are felt by all Americans.
Building a strong and equitable domestic clean hydrogen economy is a key pillar of President Biden and Vice President Harris' plan to strengthen America's economic competitiveness, create new good-paying, high-quality jobs, and slash harmful emissions that jeopardize public health and pollute local ecosystems. This vision is embodied in the U.S. National Clean Hydrogen Strategy and Roadmap, which is being implemented through a whole-of-government approach coordinated by the Hydrogen Interagency Task Force
Selection for award negotiations is not a commitment by DOE to issue an award or provide funding. Before funding is issued, DOE and the applicants will undergo a negotiation process, and DOE may cancel negotiations and rescind the selection for any reason during that time.
Location of Selected Projects
The information in the map is provided here: https://www.energy.gov/eere/fuelcells/selections-hydrogen-and-fuel-cell-technologies-office-funding-opportunity-0 in the searchable table of funding selections.
Topic Areas
Award and cost share amounts are subject to change pending negotiations.
The selected projects fall into five topic areas.
Topic 1: Components for Hydrogen Fueling of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles
Number of projects: 4
Award amount: $8.5 million
Selected projects will develop advanced components that will enable gaseous and/or liquid hydrogen fueling at refueling stations for medium- and heavy-duty hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Topic 2: Standardized Hydrogen Refueling Station of the Future
Number of projects: 4
Award amount: $40 million
Selected projects will develop and demonstrate a low-cost, standardized, and replicable advanced hydrogen fueling station of the future that can meet the needs of commercial scale medium- and heavy-duty truck fueling.
Topic 3: Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Powered Port Equipment
Number of projects: 1
Award amount: $2.5 million
Selected projects will design, develop, and demonstrate hydrogen fuel cell port equipment such as cargo-handling equipment or shore power to docked vessels.
Topic 4: Enabling Permitting and Safety for Hydrogen Deployment
Number of projects: 7
Award amount: $7 million
Selected projects will determine the primary challenges to siting, permitting, and installation across the value chain from hydrogen production through end-use and help identify opportunities to address them.
Topic 5: Equitable Hydrogen Technology Community Engagement
Number of projects: 4
Award amount: $3.9 million
Selected projects will conduct engagement activities with a disadvantaged community to gain better understanding of their concerns and provide them with important information about hydrogen and related technologies.

Didn't turn out so well.

(34,658 posts)Hydrogen is a scam to increase the use of fossil fuels, period.
Think. Again.
(17,930 posts)...the stuff this anouncement deals with, doesn't increase the use of fossil fuels.

(929 posts)- the last I knew large scale Hydrogen production was fueled by carbon based fuels, natural gas I believe. If there have not been further developments in hydrogen production that I am not aware of, it sounds to me like we're only transferring the carbon pollution from the end user to the producers.

(34,658 posts)It's a crime against the future that this scam has been successfully sold by advertising.
A Giant Climate Lie: When they're selling hydrogen, what they're really selling is fossil fuels.
Exxon rebranding fossil fuels as hydrogen:

(17,930 posts)...or is the entire Dept. of Energy in on the scam?
Think. Again.
(17,930 posts)....target GREEN HYDROGEN, which doesn't involve the use of fossil fuels in any way, not even in the electricity used in it's production.
Pro-fossil fuel hacks will continue to spread lies about Hydrogen, and solar, and wind, and anything else that will keep us hooked on fossil fuels, but tge truth is we need to build out these Green tools as much and as quickly as possible.
Green Hydrogen does not use fossil fuels, or emit CO2, in any way.
Think. Again.
(17,930 posts)...that explains the different ways Hydrogen CAN be made, it's why the Biden Administration focuses their support on "Clean" (Green) H2...

If someone tries to tell you H2 can only be made from fossil fuels, they are trying to convince you not to consider one of the technologies we must use to eliminate CO2, they are trying to stall the transition AWAY from fossil fuels.
