On October 8, a 15-MW onshore wind turbine SI-2701150 self-developed by SANY Renewable Energy (SANY R. E.) was installed in Tongyu, Jilin Province, China. The groundbreaking project set two world records -- the highest single-unit capacity for an onshore turbine and the largest rotor diameter of any onshore turbine ever installed worldwide.
First unveiled at the 2023 Wind Energy Exhibition, the SI-2701150 is a flagship model developed on the 12.X-16.X MW platform. It has a design life of 25 to 30 years. With a rotor diameter of 270 meters and a blade length of 131 meters, the SI-2701150 boasts a maximum swept area of 57,256 square meters, equivalent to about eight soccer fields. The larger swept area boosts its wind capture ability on land, allowing a single unit to generate electricity to power 160,000 households annually.
