Three Coast cities will see improvements to their train stations ahead of Amtrak service that could return in early 2022.
Southern Rail Commission announced Monday the grants for South Mississippi:
Bay St. Louis $270,000
Gulfport $246,500
Pascagoula $186,838
Birmingham will receive $250,000.
Birmingham is a central transport hub in the South, and we fully understand the vitality that investments in transit-oriented development can bring, said SRC Secretary and Alabama Commissioner Stephen McNair.
Birminghams project will create seamless connections for travelers between long distance passenger rail and local transit service through its beautiful multimodal station.
The grants require an equal local match invested in the project.
