Animal Lovers--Please Show Support For H.R. 1417 (BEST Practices Act)

H.R. 1417 was introduced on April 7, 2011 by Rep. Bob Filner (D-CA) Mr. Jones, Mr Rothman of New jersey, Mr. Critz, Mr.Andrews, Barney Frank of Massachusetts, George Miller of California, Mr. Bartlett, Mr. Johnson of Georgia, and Dennis Kucinich of Ohio., and was referred to the Committee On Armed Services as a Bill to amend Title 10, United States Code, to require the Secretary of Defense to use only human-based methods for training members of the Armed Forces in the treatment of severe combat injuries

The Act is titled Battlefield Excellence through Superior Training (BEST) Practices Act. or Best Practices Act
The Department of Defense has state of the art human-patient simulators for training medics how to treat severe battlefield injuries, which allow the medics to break and amputate limbs over and over until they get it right.
These human-patient simulators are far better at training the medics than using live goats. pigs and other animals because the animals' anatomy, blood vessels, skin tissue etc are much different than human anatomy, blood vessels etc.
On the battlefield, medics who were trained using live animals actually have to UN-learn what they learned from breaking or cutting off legs of animals, which wastes valuable time; and, in some cases, might actually cost the wounded soldiers their lives.

This is one bill that both Democrats and Republicans should want to support since it costs nothing and may save wounded soldiers' lives, because the human-patient simulators are far more effective in training the medics.

Please contact your Congressperson and ask him or her to support H.R. 1417,
Also contact all members of the House Armed Services Committee; and it wouldn't hurt to contact your Senators as well, as Senate approval will be needed if and when the bill passes the House.
