(13,588 posts)That sweet puppy did not deserve to die like that!!!! Why aren't people with dog aggressive dogs more careful???? Why can't people get off their damned high horse and admit the truth that Pit Bulls are dog aggressive? People care more about the "freedom" for their dog aggressive dogs than the lives of other dogs.
I am so sorry for your loss......

(135,425 posts)I also get the hell outta the way if I see one coming.
They may have an "undeserved" reputation but there are enough stories of vicious pit bull dogs that I do not trust them and I never can nor will. I wouldn't put my dog in a situation where they had to confront one--too dangerous, IMO.

(3,231 posts)One of my dogs was attacked by a pit - it was off leash, mine on and it cost me thousands to have her stitched up and aftercare - owner of the dog gave me phony contact info - this was a few years ago - had to retire my girl from showing after that because of the scars - now she hates any dog outside her own pack.

(1,941 posts)The people who buy dangerous dogs are the same who buy monster trucks and guns. They have to bolster their self-confidence with dangerous things. Why can't you just get a barbed wire tattoo like a normal asshole?

(4,574 posts)You would think too, that a doctor's office would be safe.
Also if it is just abused pit bulls who are the ones who attack, then this would seem different than that. I would think a person who mistreats their own pit bull, would not even bother to take them to the vet.
I do think also that aggressive dogs, where the owner knows they are aggressive, should have a muzzle on them in public.

(13,588 posts)My own dog is not a pure bred Border Collie; but she sure likes to try to herd people and other dogs, she even wants to herd cats. She actually shows a great many traits that her predominant breed were bred to have. That being said, some dog breeds/landraces were bred to harm other dogs. Traits bred into dogs' ancestors can show up generations after they were actually used. In the desire to try to do right by all dogs and get them homes when they are at the shelter, a lot of people will just not permit any discussion of negative traits bred into pit bull type dogs (since they are the predominant dogs in shelters these days percentage-wise). It just isn't permitted among most dog loving people. I usually just keep my mouth shut so I don't lose all my friends involved in dog sports, but I've read too much and it bothers me that negatives can be discussed for any other type of dog but one. And those negatives can cause more harm than someone's mouthy Labrador chewing a rug.
Reading about the loss of this precious puppy just put me over the edge into forbidden territory. I am sorry if I've offended anyone. What dogs kill puppies? They are social animals!

(8,646 posts)so sad, she looks exactly like my puppy, also a terrier mix (same color markings and everything).
We have neighbors with pit bulls. Really super nice dogs, lots of slobbery kisses. My neighbor, when we first met, was shocked I wasn't scared of his pit bulls. He's a scary looking dude and I think he likes having people scared of his dogs. Not me, I love all dogs. But I've seen enough 'nice' pits get dog aggressive out of the blue so even though we have really sturdy fences, my puppy doesn't go outside without me.
We had one vet require that aggressive breeds be muzzled in the waiting room...that should be standard, IMO.
Again, I'm so sorry for your loss, Binky was adorable. How sad
