Can anyone make a recommendation for meatless burgers that are pre-made or give me a recipe
I'm trying to go full vegetarian for both my father and myself. One of his favorite foods are hamburgers I have a recipe for quinoa black bean burgers but he doesn't like it. So I'm trying to find either a good pre-made brand or a recipe for one. Thank you very much

(7,784 posts)supermarkets are Boca, Morningside Farms and Gardenburger.
Morningside Farms also has a line of meatless products such as veggie bacon, chili, sausage, ribs, chicken patties, etc.
I've had all three brands and they have distinctly different tastes, but I like them all.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll find something you and your father like

(2,670 posts)All he seems to like to eat is Italian sausage, hot dogs, hamburgers, and steak. But he has a lot of Health problems and his doctor who is a vegan talked to me and said a vegetarian diet would help him. So I'm dragging him kicking and screaming into it because I'd like to see him live past 60

(2,201 posts)They make Italian sausage, kielbasa, and beer brats. They also, apparently, according to the internet, have andouille, chicken & apple, and spinach pesto. I've never actually seen them in a store, but they seem to exist. Surely the internet wouldn't lie.
Field roast also make great sausage but they are way more expensive.

(21,115 posts)I am a part time vegetarian.....that has been my finding. I still remember what meat is supposed to taste like. In fact they make Chicken Scalopini and Chicken nuggets and cutlets that are pretty good too

(24,324 posts)You just have to try a bunch of different types of meatless meat in different brands and find out what you like.
Also-- you could make your own veggie burgers.
A gazillion recipes on line..

(64,557 posts)Amy's are pretty good as well, but not as good as Gardein.

(11,417 posts)This brand has just turned up in my local grocery Von's and they are really good.
But my wife is anti wheat gluten and most meatless meats have it as an ingredient.

(7,448 posts)I usually google a recipe and always make them a little different. I love beans and all legumes though.

(49,212 posts)Personally my favorite veggie burger is the Amy's Texas burger, but it's not really meat-like. If you're looking for something that resembles meat, I think the gardein beefless burger is the best I've tried, by far.
If you have access to them in your area, I also suggest any Field Roast products. I haven't had one I didn't really, really like, but the sausages are especially good.

(2,670 posts)I would try the Amys for myself tho. I'll also look out for field roast products

(2,151 posts)We just did and even the non-vegetarians in the family loved them.
We also like the Morningstar buffalo chicken patties and the spicy black bean burgers. Also recently tried the Gardein "meatballs" and they were good.

(9,591 posts)If you (or he) can't face a meat-free burger yet. The crumbles are textured soy protein that really have the taste and texture of browned ground beef to be used in spaghetti sauce, chili, tacos etc. I'm not a vegetarian but trying to watch weight/fat/calories, and I use this product a lot. Has even fooled my carnivorous DH, who would *never* eat a veggie burger.

(49,212 posts)I make the best tacos on god's green earth with them, the recipe is around here somewhere.
The awesome part is the ingredient list: textured whole soybeans. That's it. Then you can add whatever you want when you reconstitute them, total control over what goes into your body.
A package is about $4 for 8 oz dry, which is a whole heck of a lot once you add water. Several dinners worth.

(9,591 posts)I usually get Boca, they're very similar
You can also do a meal with half real browned ground beef and half crumbles (I often do this for tacos) which is a dead ringer for the real thing IMO with half the bad stuff of meat.

(4,492 posts)Made by Ziyad. It has its own taste, but for me is a good substitute for a burger.
Just add water, make a patty, and fry

(24,707 posts)I can't eat most veggie burgers from restaurants because they often put eggs in them.

(38,025 posts)Tofurky Hickory Smoked Deli Slices - makes an awesome open faced turkey sandwich! Comfort food at it's finest. Also makes a great plain turkey sandwich.
Gimme Lean Sausage roll - I slice it into coins & fry it & then make sausage gravy with two of the broken up coins. More yummy comfort food.
Yves hot dogs are the best, imo. I see above someone gave Smart Dogs their seal of approval.
Another Yves product, baloney. Very good & brings back memories of baloney sandwiches on white bread with mayo when I was a kid.
These are all highly processed foods & I eat them sparingly. They're also expensive.

(13,305 posts)They aren't thick but they are very tasty and burger like.
The issue with thickness is that most of what veggie burgers are going to be made of does not stick together all that well or all that consistently.

(50,130 posts).....they profiled a new grocery product called "neat" that is made of pecans, garbanzo flour, and other totally organic material. It's dry. You add water, stir, and voila, you can make patties or use as crumbled meat. It looks really interesting.

(4,768 posts)We make BB burger in advance, form them, wrap them in wax paper and freeze them. We then cook them on the grill, awesome! Some red onions with some leaf lettuce on a pretzel rolls.
It does not have quinoa in it....

(7,868 posts)crumbs, egg, whatever spices he likes, chopped onion and garlic. Shape into patties and grill like any other burger. It's great. I've got my grandkids hooked on turkey burgers, turkey spaghetti, etc. Much lower fat and cholesterol and still tasty. Once he's used to the turkey, start introducing veggie products. It will take a little longer to get him off meat this way but it works.

(2,049 posts)the "simple truth" brand at Kroger? They have something called the "meatless patty" that is really, really good and very convenient for those times when you want good but are in a hurry. nuke 'em in the 'wave for 2 minutes, they're juicy and good. Simple truth with the green circle. I believe they are a Kroger-only thing. They come in a bag of four for about 4 bucks. The patties are bigger than most veggie patties I've seen, and unlike some, (like some morningstar) these are vegan, containing NO animal cruelty at all. My wife likes ALL of the Gardein offerings, I haven't tried them all yet but I like the ones I have. Press on towards cruelty-free, you'll be so glad you did.
