We have a farm animal sanctuary in Texas!
In deep, red, meat loving Texas something is happening. Renee King-Sonnen, a cattle rancher's wife, found herself becoming extremely distressed at the cries of the mothers when they took the calves away, and finally reached the conclusion that it wasn't going to happen again. She went vegan and is now dedicating the 96-acre ranch as a sanctuary for farm animals. The first residents are the existing cattle, a few rescued horses, and a pot-bellied pig named Herman who was in a high-kill shelter.
Yesterday they had a fundraising event at the sanctuary, featuring speakers such as Kip Anderson of Cowspiracy. Among future plans are those for a veganic vegetable farm to help raise money to fund the operation.

I'm pretty excited about this!
