A Papillion man accused of shooting his family’s two Yorkshire Terriers, killing one, has been convicted in the case.

Wednesday, Barry L. Richey, 56, pleaded no contest to two counts of cruel neglect of an animal. Both are misdemeanors punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

According to Deputy County Attorney Ben Perlman, officers from the Papillion Police Department were called to a disturbance at Richey’s home on April 20.

Richey’s wife, Wendy Richey, told police she took her dogs Mario and Bella to the vet and learned both dogs had been shot with a BB gun.
