(7,911 posts)I wasn't sure whether you were in that camp.
That book, and the books by Esselstyn and McDougall were real life-changers for me. I went from being a sickly 50-something getting worse each year, to a very happy, healthy, vigorous and energetic 70-something who never felt better in my life. At 50 I couldn't walk across the street. At 72 I walk, jog, bicycle miles every day.
At 50 I felt either awful, or on my good days, so-so. I never had that terrific "I feel wonderful!" experience that I now have every day.

(24,324 posts)She has been vegan for many years. And she lets everybody know.. (One of those types. LOL, but she's my sister.)
So during and after my 3 months of chemo, I went vegan. for a little more than a year. Since then I do eat some meat, but not much. More fish, then some pork and chix,, almost zero beef.. I found that, having grown up in NJ in the '50s and '60s I can more easily stay on a good diet with a little meat.. it's like.. what...Like a little hit...:> I mean in NJ we ate dirt, man !
But because of her influence I have found some dynamite vegan restaurants.. mostly in NYC, LA area, etc..
I actually cook a lot of real Chinese, almost every night for almost last 2 1/2 years..... mostly Sichuan, some Shanghai, Guangdong and Shangdong mixed in..
have been cancer free since Sept 2012 knock on wood..
