Question about Veggie Burgers
Yesterday my family and I attended a catered lunch, and one of the items on the menu was veggie burgers.
I decided to try one, and it was delicious
The only problem is, I don't know what brand it was.
It looked like it contained black beans, corn, and (perhaps) red pepper - and it had a smokey taste.
I realize this is a rather vague description, but if anyone has any ideas as to what brand it may have been, I'd be most appreciative.
If not, I would also appreciate recommendations on other veggie burgers that I might try.

(1,376 posts)I believe Morningstar has a brand they call a black bean burger or a spicy black bean burger, something like that. It has black beans and corn in it.

It was held at the Science Center in Baltimore, so I imagine that they use the same caterer for many (if not all) of their events.

Morningstar Farms also has a chipotle black bean burger.

(18,653 posts)FYI: if you are serving or trying to convert any meat eaters to a cruelty free / planet friendly burger. Try the Impossible Burger. It tastes so similar to meat it freaks out some vegans because it tastes too much like meat. When I had one the first time I thought I had accidentally been served a real burger but quickly realized I was at Crossroads an entirely vegan restaurant in LA. 😉

(1,389 posts)It's funny - I have often thought about becoming a vegetarian (as of right now, I rarely eat much meat), but I have never really made an effort to fully convert.
But as I get older, I seem to be moving in that directions.
I will see if I can find the Amy's burger and/or the Impossible Burger.

Can't remember where I got this recipe, but it's really good. I've altered it a time or two.
15 oz. can black beans
Whole kernel corn, canned or fresh off the cob
1/2 diced red pepper
1/4 cup bread crumbs
Few cups fresh spinach
1/2 smashed cucumber or avocado
Some diced tomatoes
Shredded or crumbled cheese (I usually use cheddar or feta)
1/3 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
2 beaten egg whites
Some chopped onion
Minced garlic
1/4 cup fresh cilantro
1/2 teaspoon oregano
Pinch nutmeg
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
* Sauté corn in small amount of olive oil, salt, pepper until it browns a bit ( I also,add a little dried
thyme)
* Sauté, cook down spinach in small amount of olive oil
* Mash beans and avocado or cucumber
* Combine all ingredients
* Sauté in a small amount is f olive oil about 5 minutes on each side. I brown both sides, then
lower heat
* Serve on a roll or eat as is
* These freeze well

(34,661 posts)developed this product decades ago. Soy Flour is still the go to ingredient in these Burgers. Got to read the Labels,there are some really Nasty Cheapo wannabe crap out there and they are loaded with Salts as a Flavor enhancer . And you do not need any extra Salt of any type.

(34,661 posts)best of all of them in the market. We Jobbed the Originals back in the Late Sixties. 30# box was like six or seven bucks Wholesale. Burgers were 4to the Pound so right around 7 cents a unit Wholesale usually retailed at 10 for a Buck.

(4,777 posts)I made their ultimate veggie burger for my family last night, it had bulger, cremini, leeks, lintels and panko. Family really liked them. I make a bunch of them and free them after food vacuum sealing them, Grill them directly without thawing.
Check their cookbook out of the library if you have one near you.
My advice is to make your own.

(60 posts)Are simply the best. I will never eat a black bean patty again. Beyond Meat burgers are so good the local stores can't keep them in stock and apparently the company is going through an upsizing to keep up with demand.

(4,542 posts)Boca Veggie Burgers, All American Flame Grilled burgers, and if you're into corn dogs we like MorningStar Farms Veggie Corn Dogs. I personally like the MS veggie cord dogs better than the real meat frozen ones. The Boca Burgers are just darn good, but real hamburger is too. Boca makes a good change up now and then.

(34,367 posts)I have been trying to eat much less meat, and I know a few others in the group are as well. I got the morningstar crumble and was very disappointed in the bland flavor & mushy texture in a spaghetti sauce. I found out, later,
that making the sauce first & adding that brand crumbles to heat through would give a firmer texture. Oddly their 'maple breakfast sausage' is much tastier.
Wouls anyone recommend particular meat subsitutes, crumbles types especially to me thanks.

(4,187 posts)No other company even comes close. They have a meatless ground, which is great for Spaghetti Bolonese. Their meatless meatballs, fishless filets, crabless cakes, and chickn scallopini, not to mention their holiday roast, are also amazing.
Make sure to follow the instructions on the package. These meat substitutes dont get cooked as long as real meat.
