The Sustainable Animal Agriculture Hoax - presentation by Dr Sailesh Rao
Last edited Tue Feb 25, 2020, 07:56 AM - Edit history (1)
The Sustainable Animal Agriculture Hoax was part of a larger webinar presentation called The Humane Hoax. From January 25, 2020. Presentation by Sailesh Rao, PhD
Dr. Rao is a Human, Earth and Animal Liberation (HEAL) activist, husband, dad and since 2010, a star-struck grandfather. He has promised his granddaughter, Kimaya, that the world will be largely Vegan before she turns 16 in 2026, so that people will stop eating her relatives, the animals. He has faith that humanity will transform to keep his pinky promise to Kimaya, not just for ethical reasons, but also out of sheer ecological necessity.
Dr. Rao is the author of two books, Carbon Dharma: The Occupation of Butterflies and Carbon Yoga: The Vegan Metamorphosis, and an Executive Producer of four documentaries, The Human Experiment (2013), Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret (2014), What The Health (2017), and A Prayer for Compassion (2019).
(This is an amazing presentation. He shows how people are focusing on stopping the usage of fossil fuels as the way to bring down our carbon footprint, but it needs to also include stopping animal agriculture which is an even bigger contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. He predicts the world will go vegan by 2026, which I find to be much too optimistic.)
If you want to watch the complete presentation with several other presenters, you can watch on facebook.

(4,570 posts)2. I don't quite understand part of the explanation
"In 2018, the IUCN discharged a report that depicted how boycotting palm oil would basically move the harvests biodiversity effects on locales where its substitution oils are created, for example, the tropical woodlands and savannas of South America."
Even though soybean oil and other vegetable oils require more land to get the same amount of oil, can't soybeans be grown in other locations. My cousins grow soybeans in Illinois.
Whereas palm oil, needs to grow in a tropical location.
If only we could find a way for the locals to make money in Indonesia and Borneo without cutting down forests.
