It was reported that Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte killed a Yellowstone National Park wolf that he trapped just 10 miles outside the Parks boundary. Governor Gianforte did so in violation of state regulation as he had not completed the necessary trapping education course. This news comes just as a raft of bills aimed at drastically increasing the killing of Montanas iconic wolves, grizzly bears and black bears are poised to head to the Governors desk for his signature. These bills include ones that would allow wolves to be killed using strangling snares, extend the wolf trapping season, and allow reimbursements for wolf hunting and trapping expensesessentially creating a bounty.
Amanda Wight, program manager of wildlife protection at the Humane Society of the United States issued the following statement:
Governor Gianforte just spit in the face of millions of people who come from all over the world to see wolves and other wildlife in Montana. Not only is trophy hunting wolves, especially a beloved wolf from Yellowstone National Park, ethically wrong, but economically and ecologically it makes no sense. Wolves keep ecosystems healthy and biologically diverse and are a huge draw for tourists. Yet, with the stroke of his pen, Governor Gianforte could soon set a similar fate in stone for hundreds more of Montanas wolves, as the legislature is poised to send a number of bills aimed at slaughtering the states wildlife to his desk.

(49,724 posts)and senselessly cruel. We know that wolves are an essential part of a balanced ecosystem. The long term damage could be devastating.
When the grey wolf was reintroduced into the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in 1995, there was only one beaver colony in the park, said Doug Smith, a wildlife biologist in charge of the Yellowstone Wolf Project.
Today, the park is home to nine beaver colonies, with the promise of more to come, as the reintroduction of wolves continues to astonish biologists with a ripple of direct and indirect consequences throughout the ecosystem.
A flourishing beaver population is just one of those consequences, said Smith.

(28,246 posts)A piece of excrement like him could kill anyone's dog if he didn't like it. I'd bet he's illegally shot more animals too.
Soulless asshole. 😡
