The Next Anti-Israeli Temper Tantrum

Some two dozen well-known novelists are writing a book about Israel's occupation of the West Bank that will lack context, ignore reality, give Palestinians a pass for their terror and Jew-hating, and do nothing to end the very occupation they deplore.

The occupation is "the most grievous injustice I have ever seen in my life … the worst thing I have ever seen, just purely in terms of injustice," the Pulitzer Prize-winning American Jewish author Michael Chabon said after touring the West Bank city of Hebron in late April with his wife, the novelist Amy Ayelet Waldman – who are jointly leading the project to produce the book next year. Perhaps Chabon's led a sheltered life, for the occupation in Hebron and elsewhere in the West Bank hardly compares to humanitarian horror in North Korea; political suppression in China, Russia and Cuba; and the lack of fundamental human rights across the Arab world.

Or perhaps it hasn't occurred to Chabon, Waldman and the other esteemed novelists who include Mario Vargas Llosa, Geraldine Brooks and Dave Eggers – all of whom have visited the West Bank, East Jerusalem, or Gaza or will do so in the coming weeks – that they wouldn't be allowed to investigate human rights in any of the aforementioned countries due to their autocratic rule.

Hell, they're not allowed to investigate human rights violations in Gaza either.

Except if Jews can be blamed.

If Hamas, they're just as restricted as in China, etc..

Plus, they just don't give a shit about Palestinians when Jews can't be blamed.

I don't think human rights violations are ever OK, not even when they're committed by America's greatest ally. The right thing to do is to stop committing human rights violations, not to stop reporting about them.

....and not to vilify Israel based on hyperbole, lies, and propaganda.

Why would people exaggerate and lie about Israel's human rights record?

Well, other than for bigoted, hateful reasons....

Am I supposed to care about these people? I mean really - "the most grievous injustice I have ever seen in my life" just makes them look like complete imbeciles given what's going on in the world - how about what isis is doing - turning girls into sex slaves, burning people alive, North Korea, the treatment of women throughout the Muslim world. This book will get the scorn it deserves.

I doubt his name was ever in my mind for more than an instant. Why on earth would I remember someone I labeled a clown? Surely you must agree that his hyperbolic bullshit is not helpful in the slightest.

my suspicions. Always good to know that hyperbole plays a role in your arguments. That way everyone can feel free to take it with a grain of salt.

lol

And a lot of self righteousness.

Believing that is the only righteous Jew in the group and the only one who gets along with those that are not... Which is a little weird for someone claiming to live in Israel.
