Private investments are amongst the lowest in the world due to restrictions
JERUSALEM, September 15, 2016 The prolonged period of slow economic growth has resulted in persistently high unemployment and stagnation in the average income of Palestinian citizens, according to the latest World Bank report on the Palestinian economy. The economy will not be able to reach its potential without a peace resolution but meaningful steps can avoid further deterioration.
The World Bank economic report will present its findings to the Ad Hoc Liaison committee (AHLC), a policy-level meeting for development assistance to the Palestinian people, on September 19, 2016 in New York.
The Palestinian economic outlook is worrying with serious consequences on income, opportunity, and well-being. Not only will it affect the Palestinian Authoritys capacity to deliver services to its citizens, it may also lead to wider economic problems and instability, said Marina Wes, Country Director for West Bank and Gaza.
The report states that, over the last decade, the Palestinian Authoritys (PA) fiscal consolidation efforts led to a decline in the deficit by 15 percent of GDP an achievement rarely seen in other places around the world. Nevertheless, the PAs finances remain fragile with declining budget support leading to a projected financing gap of about US$600 million in 2016.

(26,060 posts)if their leadership stopped stealing all the money and/or use it for weapons and building tunnels to kill Israeli's. Think of how many schools, hospitals could be built - if their own leadership wasn't constantly screwing them over.

(6,171 posts)Personally, I think the fact that a number of independent reports all imply an imminent economical collapse of the PA due to the negative effects of the occupation means that the matter should be taken seriously.
Head in the sand? You mean like you're consistent refusal to admit the truth of what I'm saying? That the Palestinian leadership is primarily responsible for the violence and the misery their people have been forced into because their leaders line their own pockets and use the money for killing more people rather than to improve their lives? You mean like that? Israel has shown they would compromise if they have a partner - Egypt and Jordan are the proof - but you and the alt-left, along with the Palestinian leaders think bashing Israel will get them what they want. You would think after 70 years, you would know better.

Pathetic.

(30,109 posts)Not to mention millionaire 1 percenter politicians in the PA lining their pockets.
This is a worthless report given how the World Bank condones this behavior. The World Bank is therefore part of the problem as these cronies are obviously not interested in the welfare of average Palestinians. Just another example of this Industry of Lies aimed at attacking, smearing, and demonizing the Jewish state.
An example of how BDS has co-opted & poisoned yet another institution, being the colonial settler movement it is.
