And away we go. Palestinians--the smart ones anyways--have been planning for the post-two-state solution era.

Contrary to [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahus plan of one state and two systems, apartheid, the only alternative to two sovereign and democratic states on the 1967 border is one single secular and democratic state with equal rights for everyone, Christians, Muslims, and Jews, on all of historic Palestine, Erekat said during a meeting with the speaker of the UK House of Commons, John Bercow, in Ramallah.
Lots of negotiating to be done, starting with what to call the new state.

They're not stupid enough to think they could take down Israel by force.
However, Israel has given them an opening to do it nonviolently via the ballot box.

And lets not forget the PLO and Hamas' incessant terrorist attacks on Israel. Violence was at the core of their strategy since the beginning.

(3,386 posts)Of course they want their own state. The question is are they willing to allow the Jews to have their own state? Or put another way, do they want the Jewish state gone more than they want a state of their own? History says that the answer to that question is yes, which is why they don't have a state of their own. Which is also why they won't get one state at the ballot box. As long as they don't accept the Jewish state, then there is no reason that the Israelis have to give them a vote on the issue.

Under no deal terms whatsoever have the Palestinians been promised full statehood--including the right to make their own military alliances, control their own borders, and their own airspace, their own internal security, and own groundwater.
It's not rocket science, give them (a) their own state and (b) their own responsibility to provide for their voters and they'd be too busy fighting amongst themselves about bread and butter to worry about planting their flag in Tel Aviv.

(17,474 posts)There hasn't been a Palestinian election for 10 years. "Palestine" is going to be a dictatorship, just like ALL the neighboring Muslim countries.
Jews and Christians need not apply.
That's what you support as a progressive, right?

(3,386 posts)If someone is trying to kill you it's not enough that you can defend yourself. You want them to stop trying to kill you. It's not rocket science. Give them a state of their own and they will use it to attack Israel or prepare to attack Israel. What they have been promised is irrelevant. If they have the intent (and they do), then they will find a way to obtain weapons. Israel isn't required to to just give away strategic territory and hope for the best. Granted, the Palestinians could simply violate any peace agreement, but at least they would have to deal with that.

(3,386 posts)The Israelites had never threatened the Egyptians before they were enslaved, nor had there been any violence by the Israelites against the Egyptians until Moses slew the overseer to keep him from whipping a slave to death. The Palestinians have violently opposed the existence of a Jewish state since the 1920's before there even was an Israel. Is false analogies the best you can do?

Are you conceding that there were Palestinians back in the 1920's?
