https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/13/middleeast/palestinian-pm-gaza-explosion-intl/index.htmlPalestinian Authority Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah survived an assassination attempt in northern Gaza on Tuesday morning, according to Wafa, the official Palestinian news agency.
Hamdallah, who was making a short trip to the coastal enclave to mark the opening of a new water treatment facility, had just passed through the Erez border crossing from Israel when a bomb detonated near his convoy, tearing the siding off at least one black SUV and blowing out the car's windows.
No one was injured in the attack, said Iyad Al-Bozom, spokesman for the Palestinian Ministry of Interior and National Security, in a Facebook post. Palestinian Authority Minister of Intelligence Majid Faraj, a close ally of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbbas, was also in the convoy.

(17,287 posts)1. I guess the latest reconciliation attempt is officially over.
What I find interesting is why the failure? Is it merely that Leftist nationalists like Abbass can't work with Islamist nationalists like Hamas? Or is there something else?

Abbas is a leftist nationalist and a secularist is the biggest reason why he cannot work with Hamas or IJ.

Or really anyone in fatah. Leftists usually support ideas like democracy and transparency in government, I don't see much of that anymore from the PA.
I think the dispute is mostly about control of land, assets and revenue. Hamas is unwilling to be subsumed by the PA, and Abbas is unwilling to give them any real control in the government.
It's a classic Mexican standoff.
