Israel says soldier executed, foreign hostages held at Gaza's Shifa hospital

JERUSALEM, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Israel stepped up accusations of Hamas abuses at the Gaza Strip's biggest hospital on Sunday, saying a captive soldier had been executed and two foreign hostages held at a site that has been a focus of its devastating six-week-old offensive.
At one point a shelter for tens of thousands of Palestinian war refugees, Al Shifa Hospital has been evacuating patients and staff since Israeli troops swept in last week on what they called a mission to root out hidden Hamas facilities.

"According to intelligence information - solid intelligence information - Noa was taken by Hamas terrorists inside the walls of Shifa hospital. There, she was murdered by a Hamas terrorist," chief spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said.
He did not elaborate.

is trying to make a big deal out of the video of them entering the hospital, as if it was somehow proof of their prior unsubstantiated allegations. Would they preferred they did NOT take the wounded hostage(s) to the hospital? I assumed they would kill-off any wounded hostages, as they would be a burden.
Anymore, any pronouncement from the Likud or the IDF is just ridiculous.

(11,204 posts)Did the hostages just wound themselves? Who did you expect to make these pronouncements, Ismail Haniyeh?
And despite your vigorous denials, the footage IS proof of the IDF allegations that the hospital lost its protective status on October 7, 2023 and became a legitimate military target under international law.
As far as the IDF preferences, they would likely be in this order: that there would be no wounded hostages, or that hamas did not take any hostages, or better still, that there would be no hamas to take any hostages. No big deal, right?

Wrong.
'Human Rights Watch' stated there has been NO EVIDENCE yet presented which would reverse the 'protective status'.
Sorry.
The video of them taking wounded hostage(s) into the hospital does not prove they were using it as a 'command center' as much as the IDF would like to twist reality.

(12,885 posts)Even statements from doctors and patients have indicated that Hamas was on site, and in control - and that they had been all along. Sympathy for the innocents is one thing (and we have them in plenty) - but plain denial of even the most reasonable evidentiary claims ... Sorry, but that ship is going down.
the IDFs claim the video is evidence of a 'command center' is silly. Bringing wounded people to a hospital indicates nothing of the sort.
The IDF is so desperate to try and verify their baseless claims, to them EVERYTHING is somehow connected. Silly.

(11,204 posts)Cite any IDF source that claims "the video is evidence of a 'command center'.
I dare ya.

(11,204 posts)Maybe that's why its founder Robert Bernstein slammed them for their antisemitism, and Kenneth Roth, its executive director, just quit. If that's your only source, it is a laughable defense for your claims. Never mind that the supposed quote you excerpted has not been cited.
There were recordings of both wounded and non-wounded hostages. The ones who were physically able to resist, resisted.
I wouldn't say that bringing up the headquarters issue makes you any more credible, although I can see why you would deflect. Holding hostages in a hospital and belligerent combatants brandishing firearms as they drag the hostages in is more than sufficient for it to lose its protective status under international law.
Weak. Really weak.
Again, should they have NOT taken wounded people to a hospital?
If you stand on your head, rub your tummy, and sing Dixie, it still doesn't work.
Beastly Boy
(11,204 posts)They abducted the people. They wounded the people. They took the people to the hospital. I doubt very much that treating the wounded was on their minds - they took the healthy hostages there too. What they should or should not have done has a longer history to it than you pretend, and it is not the issue.
They made the hospital a legitimate military target. Note that I am not asking you whether or not they should have done this. They did.
And guess what: I am standing on my head, rubbing my tummy and singing Dixie as I am posting this, and detaining hostages in a hospital is still a violation of international law. And, BTW, the hospital personnel who were aware of this and didn't report it are complicit in violating international law.
You're obviously easily distracted.
Soooo, should they have left them in the parking lot like a parked car?
False.
Your comprehension of international law is seriously lacking.
Which STILL doesn't support the IDF allegation of a 'command center', which is, after all, is THE POINT.

It is your point, and your point alone. There is no allegation that the videos have any relation to "command center". You made it up, and you keep deflecting to what you made up.
Let me repeat this slowly: The. Presence. of Armed. Combatants. In. The. Hospital. Removes. The. Hospital. Protections. Under. International. Law. Which part of this is beyond the limits of your presumed legal expertise?
Look it up. Just once. Maybe then your pretense to comment on other people's comprehension of international law would not appear so laughable.
NO. IT. DOESN'T.
Reversing the 'protective status' of a hospital is an EXTREMELY high bar.
You ain't there. You ain't even close.

Yes it does. And I dare you to cite a source that tells otherwise.
Reversing the 'protective status' of a hospital is an EXTREMELY high bar which Hamas met on October 7. This is what the videos had proven beyond any doubt. When it comes to war crimes, they are the uncontested champions at committing them.
