'Yet again, far too many civilians have been killed': Harris criticizes IDF Gaza strike

Reiterating earlier criticism by the White House and by many countries, US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris denounces alleged harm to Palestinian civilians after Gaza Strip’s Hamas-run civil defense agency claimed over 90 people were killed in the airstrike, describing the incident as a “horrific massacre.”

“Yet again, far too many civilians have been killed,” Harris tells reporters, while also reiterating calls for a Gaza ceasefire.

Unfortunately, the only video I could find of Harris actually speaking is from Fox, but you can go directly to the 0.38 mark, hear her in her own words, and skip the rest of the garbage:

You know, yet again, there are far too many civilians had been killed. I mean, Israel has a right to go after the terrorists that are Hamas. But as I have said many many times, they also have, I believe, an important responsibility to avoid civilian casualties.

Doesn't sound like a denunciation to me.

I know, I know, you are "only" quoting your source, but you selected a source that is quoting Harris out of context. That was YOUR choice.

to reflect that the casualty count and the "attack on innocent civilians sheltering in a school" narrative came from the terrorists and were highly dubious.

As for our storied free press, I'm still awaiting any acknowledgement from and denunciation of Hamas's ongoing war crime of using human shields.

Israel Says It Hit Hamas Command in a Gaza School
August 11, 2024 at 4:33AM EDT

(Bloomberg) -- A deadly Israeli strike on Gaza City that drew international condemnation was aimed at a Hamas “command and control center” embedded within a school and adjacent mosque, Israel’s military said.

Hamas authorities in Gaza estimated about 100 people were killed in Saturday’s missile attack. The figures couldn’t be independently verified and Hamas authorities don’t distinguish between civilian and combatant casualties.

US Vice President Kamala Harris, who’s running to replace President Joe Biden in the White House in November, rebuked Israel for civilian casualties while affirming its “right to go after the terrorists that are Hamas.”

The Israel Defense Forces said the air strike, using three precision-guided bombs, targeted “approximately two dozen” members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad who it described as operating within the Al-Taba’een school. It named 19 operatives who it said were killed.

Updates with new IDF statements in fifth through seventh paragraphs. An earlier version corrected the trashline to show Bloomberg reported an outdated death-toll estimate.
