"gut feeling"
"hunch"
"vibes"

I have had, and followed, them all my life.
One of my blessings is a sure sense of timing which has led me to make changes in jobs, living situations, financial decisions at very propitious times.

example: Having a "bad feeling" about my retirement money after I retired, I took it all out of
AIG ( annuity) and Lehman, ( cds) which is where my advisor had planted it, in the spring of 2008. Lehman and AIG collapsed that fall. At that point in time, I was not following the economy at all.

Sold the house in Cal. in late summer of 2005, due to a strong repeated feeling "it was time to leave".
Got out before the bubble broke.

sometimes the opposite is true. I want to do something, but "my gut" says wait, it is not time.

The urge to move from Cal. to back here in Ala. had been growing for a year, and at one point in early summer of 2004 I was seriously thinking of making the move then, but it did not feel right.
Actually, my gut was saying "wait wait wait" pretty firmly.
Hurricane Ivan made a direct hit here in Sept. of that year.

Pays to listen to your gut, indeed.
