Chasten Buttigieg Shares His Side of the Story

When Pete Buttigieg ended his history-making presidential campaign earlier this year, he walked onstage, kissed his husband, Chasten, on the lips, and spoke these words: "We sent a message to every kid out there wondering if whatever marks them out as different means they are somehow destined to be less than, someone who once felt that exact same way can become a leading American presidential candidate with his husband at his side."

Throughout the campaign, the country got to know Chasten Buttigieg in his equally historic role and now they can learn more about the surprising moments that defined him in his new memoir out now, 'I Have Something To Tell You'.

On this week's episode of LGBTQ&A, Chasten Buttigieg opens up about how foundational Matthew Shepard's death was while growing up in northern Michigan, his lifelong desire to become a father, and how the primary campaign taught him "how great our country truly is, but you just have to go look for it sometimes."

but I was so so happy to see him out there and to see him with Chasten just gave me goosebumps. Every time I saw them together I got teary. If only my brother had lived long enough to see this. If only he had felt he was as valued and valid as a human being as everyone else he might have lived. Sometimes the way you are taught to think about yourself as a child never goes away. This would have made him proud to be a gay man and I would still have my precious brother.

I suggest grabbing a copy of the book.

It will be a read well worth the time.

You Haven't Met The Real Chasten Buttigieg Yet
BY R. ERIC THOMAS SEP 1, 2020

From the ELLE Interview:

"In the book, you recount the time your dad tested your self-sufficiency by leaving you alone in the forest and watching from across the river.
Later, your self-sufficiency becomes a lifeline for you, from sleeping in your car to working multiple jobs in Chicago to navigating a complicated and unique role in the campaign.
The thing about self-sufficiency, though, is that it has to come from the self.
How do you keep your tank filled if you have to keep relying on your own skills to get you through these new and scary experiences?
"

Great read..👍

Buy the book!

I was SO pleased that we had our first gay man run for president! That was huuge to me. Pete may not have been ideologically where I wanted, but I was all for him(as a person and for representation). I didn’t hear much about Chasten and I’m glad he got some coverage! Chasten has a good heart. He and Pete are the cutest couple and I’m glad that they’re doing okay.
