DeSantis administration moves ahead on denying Medicaid coverage for transgender care

Gov. Ron DeSantis administration moved forward Friday with a proposal that would deny Medicaid coverage for treatments such as puberty-blocking medication and hormone therapy for transgender people.
The state Agency for Health Care Administration, which runs most of the Medicaid program, published a proposed rule and set a July 8 hearing on the issue. National and state legal and LGBTQ-advocacy groups have vowed to fight the proposal.
The issue centers on treatment for gender dysphoria, which the federal government defines as clinically significant distress that a person may feel when sex or gender assigned at birth is not the same as their identity.
Under the proposed rule, the Medicaid program would not cover puberty-blocking medication, hormones and hormone antagonists, sex-reassignment surgeries and any other procedures that alter primary or secondary sexual characteristics.

(1,962 posts)I'm all set to check out and be reunited with my partner... She's been gone for 14 years now. Ironically (or sickeningly), she died in Florida.
Honestly? With President/Fuhrer DeSatan, I imagine my life expectancy could be measured in seconds... maybe minutes.
This fucker can't be let anywhere near the Oval Office. He's far more dangerous and evil than Drumpf - and that was bad enough.

(1,962 posts)It's no longer safe there. I'm not sure if it ever was, but it's getting real unsafe now.
And some of us knew that once he and Abbutt started going after trans kids that adults would be next. Kids were just done to grease the skids to go after all trans people.

(1,962 posts)Not only is this blatant discrimination but how the hell can a governor effectively decide what a federal program can and cannot do? I don't give a damn if it's "his" state or not. He doesn't work for the federal government and shouldn't be in any position to control what Medicaid can and cannot do.
But why would that matter to him? Little fucking Napoleon of Florida just can't go 6 hours without bullying trans people.
Get out our of pants, DeSatan, before you get a boot to the nose.

(62,648 posts)The new rulemaking aims to deem gender affirming care as not medically necessary, but "experimental and investigative," thus not required by the law.

(1,962 posts)The kind of people who think horse dewormer cures COVID. The kind of people who think the Earth is flat and the Sun orbits around it. People who are more than happy to bring up "science" as an excuse to discriminate against trans people... while hating science the rest of the time.
"Experimental and investigative"? My dad was in elementary school when Christine Jorgensen had her surgery. My mom... Shit, she would've been 2 or 3 at the time. We've been doing this for 70~ years now. They are just bigots who do not want trans people to exist at all. They'd rather force us into normalcy and their narrow-minded view of gender.... or have us die.
Still, how can they override the federal government on this? That's what's getting to me. This isn't Florida Hitler dictating a state program, but a federal one... And of course, as usual, these goons sure want "state's rights" to hurt others, not to help people.
Why can't DeSatan just do us all a favor and choke to death on his horse paste?
