Poland to quit treaty on violence against women, minister says
WARSAW (Reuters) - Poland will take steps next week to withdraw from a European treaty on violence against women, which the right-wing cabinet says violates parents rights by requiring schools to teach children about gender, the justice minister said on Saturday.
Zbigniew Ziobro told a news conference his ministry would submit a request to the labour and families ministry on Monday to begin the process of withdrawing from the treaty, known as the Istanbul Convention.
It contains elements of an ideological nature, which we consider harmful, Ziobro said.
Polands ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party and its coalition partners closely align themselves with the Catholic Church and promote a conservative social agenda. Hostility to gay rights was one of the main issues promoted by President Andrej Duda during a successful re-election campaign this month.
On Friday, thousands of people, mostly women, protested in Warsaw and other cities against proposals to reject the treaty.

they were enablers...they played dumb...they knew nothing about the death camps surrounding the town?...the smell of burning flesh wasn't a giveaway?...rounding up the Jews and forcing them out of their homes and shooting them in the street..they didn't know anything about that either except they watched...they watched a nazi soldier tie one end of a rope around my aunt's neck and the other he attached to a fender of a car...they dragged her until she had no skin...she was decapitated...she was 8 years old..the ground around the camps literally throbbed from the gas of buried dead bodies and seeping blood...they didn't know anything about that, huh?...years later my mother received a letter from a Polish neighbor expressing his remorse for turning my mother's family into the Nazis..and..they now lived in my grandparents home..much nicer then their old home...I have the letter...
