Republican state rep says women 'excited' to get pregnant for free trip to travel to get abortion

Alaska state Republican Rep. David Eastman (Wassila) is showing the kind of “intelligence” and misogyny and racism that has led his Republican brethren into leadership positions in their Party. Alaska Republicans and Democrats were hammering out a seemingly no-brainer resolution they all agreed upon that would proclaim April of 2018 Sexual Assault Awareness Month as well as Child Abuse Prevention Month, when state Rep. Eastman decided to act like the biggest dickhead in a barn stuffed with cow pies. According to KTUU, he asked that a provision be added that would say abortion was the "ultimate form of child abuse."

Four Republicans who serve on the committee, which is tasked with touching up bills and scheduling them for a vote, voted to adopt Eastman's amendment. The measure was adopted 4-to-3. Rep. Gabrielle LeDoux, R-Anchorage, was the lone member of the Democrat-led House majority coalition to support the change.

After the meeting, Eastman told The Associated Press he was pleased to see a higher profile for the contentious abortion debate, in part because he believes this: "We have folks who try to get pregnant in this state so that they can get a free trip to the city, and we have folks who want to carry their baby past the point of being able to have an abortion in this state so that they can have a free trip to Seattle," Eastman told the wire service.

That’s a pretty shitty and stupid thing to say, but I’m sure there’s all kinds of data state Rep. Eastman can point to to prove his statement.

When asked for evidence, Eastman said he “certainly knows of specific instances,” and declined to provide details.

“I can think of a case that was brought to our attention earlier this session where you had a family who was very glad to hear that their abortion had gone beyond a certain point, because they were going to be heading to Seattle,” Eastman said.

So, that’s a no. The suggestion that women want to go through late-term abortion procedures to make a trip to Anchorage is grotesque.

to get a free trip to Seattle sounds like Michele Bachmann's claim that she knew a woman whose daughter got the HPV vaccine and "suffered from mental retardation thereafter..."

But she never provided a name...
