Welcome, feminists.

Hope to see all the posters from the old forum here, and many new ones. I know that with everyone's help, we can make this a more inclusive, popular place to post about feminism.

I feel like I'm a decade back. It's kind of like other sites though. I just got a smart phone, and I 'do' twitter. (I don't 'tweet', now there's an example of chaotic.) There are several liberal sites and feminists as well as feminists blogs I follow, (Ms. Feministing, Feministteacher etc. and I find it useful. Be cool If DU had the cashe to do it.

Inclusiveness is one thing ... I'm minded of the old saw about not having a mind so open one's brain falls out.

What are we supposed to be being inclusive of, I'm wondering.

It's a useful tool. It can express genuine amusement, sometimes in an "I shouldn't think that's funny" kind of way, it can express derision, it can convey "I'm in on the joke" ... I think it's a snickery snort.

When I was asked about it there, somebody urban dictionaried it.

1. snork
Verb: to drink something and have it come out your nose because you're laughing so hard.
I told her a funny joke while she was drinking a soda and she snorked. Then I killed her for wasting good soda, and licked it up off the ground.

2. snork
to unintentionally snort loudly while laughing. Also used as an exclamation after someone snorks, to emphasize the fact and increase their embarrassment.
She laughed so hard she snorked.
After he snorted, I pointed at him, yelled "SNORK!" and laughed.

Oh well. You can't expect urban dictionary not to throw a little misogyny into whatever ...

Oh, hey, this is the good one:

5. snork
A word occasionally used on forums in reply to a very funny post, it is sort of like posting "LOL" or similar. (but cooler)

I am kewl, so kewl.

Snork.

we probably shouldn't be guessing. Some posters at DU2 felt that the forum was not living up to its statement of purpose. One person wanted more discussion of solutions for our problems, for instance. Said person felt this part of the mission statement never materialized and that was one reason that member didn't want to post.

I am gratified that more new people are interested in posting here, because of the "fresh start" feeling this new software offers people.

if we don't understand in what way it was not inclusive before, how are we supposed to know in what way we should be *more* inclusive?

I also don't understand how the failure to discuss enough solutions is a way to exclude people.

Unless someone wants to state why they didn't feel included, they maybe shouldn't post a statement that they didn't feel included.

On your other point, about solutions for problems -- well, I don't really know what to say. Myself, I kind of just like reading things people write, whatever they're about! Not everything everybody writes, but a lot of what feminists have to say about most anything is interesting.
