Feminists
Related: About this forumi would like to make a proposal for this forum. i would like to suggest that we keep all
outside confrontations with other forums/people in meta, and keep the feminist forum for feminist issues.
i am not saying this well, and all can help to discuss and define. not a rule. i am not really into making rules. but, when we have issues like we have had recently, have a thread in meta for the drama, trauma of it all.
i will be the first to say, i have brought jury votes into this forum. which could have brought other people into the forum who really have no reason or desire to participate in this forum, per our statement.

(110,159 posts)i love having the traffic and various opinion and thought. and i love having them in an environment we have to think and discuss, per the rules, instead of namecalling and snarky comments.
there is no way i want it off the front page.
and this is more for us members. when we are going to get in a fight, take it out of this forum and do it in meta.

(3,198 posts)Sorry I'm coming in late to this. I think your idea is good.
Also, is there a policy on blocking? For example, someone who comes in here and posts (e.g. "there is no sexism anymore, you ladies need to chill out" is warned once to read the SoP, then blocked after that?
I think having these two policies in place would help a lot to make the group a safe haven. But a lot of this would be up to the hosts (locking and blocking), so I hope they weigh in.

sigh.... i am not good at that. but i have all the faith in the world there are other host that are better than i.....
ALL of the women on this board is part of the creation of it, imo. and though i may not be good at it, all one has to do is pm me and let me know how they feel.

(23,762 posts)so that alerts in the Feminist group would be handled by juries made up of members of that group.
As you indicated, alerts will draw jurors from anywhere, who are judging posts in a forum that to some extent has its own language. Or at least it has very specific definitions for certain words. No way jurors are going to learn the language, not from a few posts.
Then, because some jurors made a "wrong" decision, the arguments are brought up in H&M, complete with more links back to the Feminist forum, compounding the problem.
I don't know what to make of "closed" or "protected" forums, but if we're going to have them, the software should support/enforce the closure.

(64,318 posts)Yes, sometimes juries miss nuance and may not understand the culture of a particular group, but really, no DU group should be allowing discourse that would be unallowable elsewhere on the site.

(36,142 posts)In doing so, it makes it much clearer to spot if people turn up to disrupt the group

(110,159 posts)it worked out really well. i think this is doable.

(64,318 posts)I think that the poster has a reasonable question. We're still working our way through new DU. What is the appropriate role of Meta? I felt that the poster asked that question in a reasonable and respectful manner.

(49,212 posts)From what I can tell a lot of people WANT to talk about feminism and can't because of the way this forum is currently being run. Trying to run off anybody who disagrees with you is not acceptable behavior and it's certainly not promoting feminist discourse on this site.
Hell, if this was my first experience with discussion of feminist theory, I'd run screaming.
