Feminists

The story about the "pastor" who instructed parents to punch their boys for acting effeminate is even worse that just homophobic, it's got a heaping dose of misogyny as well. See yardwork's posting of the transcript here:

Can someone help me out here -- how exactly are we supposed to walk and smell?

(14,337 posts)was at her wedding at 25 years old. She HATES dresses. Today at 28, she has NEVER worn high heels. lol I am the same; only wear a dress, makeup, etc., at weddings. I guess I never set a good, feminine example for her, or her lesbian sister. How you dress has NOTHING to do with your sexual orientation. My future lesbian daugther-in-law is far more "feminine" than either me or her sister-in-law. Totally STUPID.
I suppose by this "pastor's" standards, netiher of us are real women.

(30,884 posts)So am I. I've never worn makeup or heels higher than 2 inches. I do wear dresses and skirts but most of the time I'm in jeans.
I don't think I smell bad but I'm not sure what a GIRL is supposed to smell like.

(11,411 posts)Because I walked a lot as a child and despite having below average physical coordination, I was a good runner and very efficient. I walk faster than average without unecessary side to side hip movement.
Many women do tend to walk slower and have more hip movement in order to look more attractive. Some of this is on purpose. Other times, I think that it is caused by wearing shoes that make it more difficult to walk fast and efficiently like heeled shoes or even dress flats are narrow and don't have rubber or other comfortable bottoms. I know that many women, even feminists, defend wearing restrictive foot wear. I suppose that if you think that it makes you look good and don't find it overally restrictive, keep wearing it. Insisting that it is a vital part of being female though, is just wrong.
