For once I'd like to see a video game without the use of belly buttons, cleavage, and only slivers of cloth over the characters big ass buttcheeks.
Tell me if you find one... The unknown videogame, not the buttcheeks.

(31,392 posts)Maybe if they did, we would get games like that. Or, the women would look normal and all the men could have exaggerated proportions.

I know that female computer programmers are really rare...

Offhand, all I can think of is Portal (depending on your definition of "warrior" , Alyx Vance/Half-Life 2, and, uh, Ms. Pac Man (depending on your definition of "cleavage"

(22,144 posts)- No capabilities differences between the genders (but some between the races (reptilian, feline, humanoid, elves, orcs...)
- You can marry any person, of any race, of any gender if they will have you.
- No heavy emphasis on breasts or genitals.
- Even when you strip a dead enemy of everything, they still have their underwear on and it covers things
- Women in leadership
- Minimal gender stereotypes.
Its not perfect, but for someone who has been actively ignoring the console gaming area for a number of years I was impressed by the visual representations, open ended story lines, and general approach to things. That said, its still a bloody swords/arrows/magic free for all and some have been unhappy about the possible parallels between the Foresworn and Native Americans.

(22,144 posts)I give the Bethesda some credit there for avoiding the prurient in a reasonable manner and putting out a game that at times seems as much art as recreation. GTA it is not.

(14,860 posts)Of course several of the costumes were skin-tight, but I think the closest it ever got to what you describe is a flight attendant's uniform you steal to sneak aboard Air Force One--the skirt was short, but not that short (IIRC).
The point of that game was more about shooting bad guys and reptilian aliens. Female protagonist who's the best agent/murderer ever, explosions, no stupid romance subplot, etc.
I was going to say that Jedi Knight 2 fit the bill since everyone's fully clothed and often in robes or stormtrooper armor, but then I remembered that the antagonist's apprentice wears a low-cut unitard that only has one leg. She trades in the unitard for a "proper" pair of leather pants and a bikini top in Jedi Knight 3, but that isn't even the most notable underwear issue in that game.

(8,170 posts)Sorry, ProgProf, didn't see your post.
Other area of concern, apart from the Forsworn, is the racism of the Stormcloaks and the Altmer (Allies of the Empire)

(9,465 posts)And we designed our own avatars. They were pretty much uni-sex: we just switched the heads. Who could tell which gender was which under all those wizards' robes or armor? You could always tell my venturing parties. They were the ones lead by Ben, Jerry, Haagen, Daaz, Godiva, and Edy.
Someone needs to design a MUD based on Darkover's "Free Amazons". They all dressed practically for the tasks.

(49,212 posts)That was back when the Tomb Raider franchise was a big thing. One day a customer asked me if there was a game like that with a male protagonist. I must admit I looked at him sort of blankly for a moment before I figured out why anybody would want such a thing.
For the record, no, there wasn't. And in the intervening decade and change I don't believe anybody's come up with one.
