Related: About this forumNOMINATIONS for lead host position
This discussion thread was locked by yardwork (a host of the Feminists group).
Hi everyone.
Many thanks to everybody who suggested ways to elect a new host. The other interim hosts and I read your suggestions, conferred, and came up with this plan:
Please nominate yourself in this thread if you wish to be lead host of the Feminism Group. In your post, tell us a little about yourself and why you want to be lead host of Feminism, such as your background or experience with feminism, etc.
The only rule is that you can only nominate yourself. Please don't nominate somebody else.
I will not be nominating myself for the position of lead host. I am thoroughly enjoying being the interim host. I look forward to passing the baton to whomever our group elects as a permanent lead host.
This thread will be locked and nominations will be closed one week from now, and then we will hold a vote.
Let the nominations begin!

(30,884 posts)First off I'd like to say that I had hoped that yardwork would want to run for lead host , but...
I would like to throw my hat in the ring for consideration as lead host.
I've been a subscriber and participant in this group since the switchover to DU3. I was a regular reader of this group on DU2.
I've served as a host of LBN and am currently the lead host of Womens' Rights and Issues Group. I understand the role of a host to be someone who facilitates the conversation and enforces the SOP. As Feminists is a safe haven group, it's also important for the hosts to preserve a place where feminists and seekers of knowledge about feminism can discuss topics without having to defend feminism itself. IMHO it's also appropriate for hosts to discourage posters who won't keep in mind that feminist framework. By discourage I mean suggest that they delete posts or find a new place for the discussion. If that fails, hosts will discuss whether the person should be blocked.
I've self-identified as a feminist since I was a teen ( a long, long time ago ) and am reasonably well informed on feminist theory, issues, and history. I don't pretend to be as expert as some on this board. DU has an amazing collection of smart, well-read feminists. That's my main motivation for participating in these groups: I learn new something every day.
Finally, because there have been talks on combining Feminists with Feminism & Diversity I would also like to state that I wholeheartedly support that merger.
If anyone has questions on how I would host I'll be happy to answer them in this thread.

(5,649 posts)Edited to add that at least I don't have to choose between the two of you now
maddezmom
(135,060 posts)but I'm so glad that Gormy Cuss volunteered as I believe she is honest, fair and most important wants the best for the group. Easy choice for me but I'd be open to others if they'd volunteer.

(115,797 posts)I've no input, am merely a reader on occasion and so don't feel the right to do more. Please don't post in Meta, leave it up to group users.
