Crazy: GOP Senator Will Teach Brooklyn Women to "Walk Like a Model," Use the Stairs "Elegantly"
Women of Brooklyn, New York, State Senator Marty Golden (R) wants to turn you into proper ladies fit for employment.
As part of a summer series on career development directed at his female constituents, Golden is hosting a taxpayer-funded event called Posture, Deportment and the Feminine Presenceon July 24. Golden promises to teach Bay Ridge women the art of feminine presence, which includes tips on how to sit, stand and walk like a model and walk up and down a stair elegantly:
Golden defended the workshop as simply a way to help women get jobs in a tough market. Countering this justification, State Sen. Liz Krueger (D-Manhattan) told City & State:
Rather than passing legislation such as the Fair Pay Act to assist women in the workplace, the Senate Republicans appear to be offering career advice on posture and how to act feminine, said Krueger, who hosted the Senate Democrats forum on issues affecting women in the workplace in May. Perhaps this would be appropriate on Mad Men, but not in New York in the 21st century

Update: Golden's website has deleted the above quotes from the event page

Good news is it's been canceled:
Brooklyn State Senator Cancels Walk Like a Model Seminar for Sloppy Broads
Republican Marty Golden, the only Brooklyn state senator to vote against marriage equality, has some thoughts on gender norms, too. In a planned event called "Posture, Deportment and the Feminine Presence," Golden, with the help of a "certified protocol consultant," promised to help misguided dames find a job by refining their god-given potential: The flier teased lessons in how to "sit, stand and walk like a model" and "walk up and down a stair elegantly," as well as tips on "handshakes and introductions." In response, State Senator Liz Krueger quipped to City & State, "Perhaps this would be appropriate on Mad Men, but not in New York in the 21st century." And following an incredulous online uproar today, the finishing class has been nixed.

A strange experience, but it didn't cause any lasting damage. What is useful I remember (posture), what isn't, I don't (curtsey - since I doubt I'll be meeting the Queen . . .)

Is he helping women to apply for jobs as geishas? Sorry, Senator. Those have been outsourced.

(40,416 posts)When a man who hates women confronts you at the top of the stairs, first mace him in the face. Then while he's rubbing his eyes, kick him in the nuts. While he's doubled over, kick him in the face. Finally, push him down the stairs.
No mess, no fuss.
Alternative method, use a stun gun in the crotch and kick him down the stairs.
Now, that's elegance.
Homage to Stieg Larsson and his wonderful Millennium Trilogy which features the fictional Lisabeth Salander, a true feminist heroine.
Highly recommended books or, if you must view movies, the Swedish language version. Salander is one pissed off woman.
More guys should read these novels.
