On this valentines day I would like to publicly thank....

My mother and all of the women who came before me. Many of you have fought to better the lives of myself and the women who came after you. While there is a long way to go, and the struggle for equality continues, the progress you fought for is grand and noticeable.

Today, these women are all my valentines.

My mother and grandmother were women who didn't act the way women of their days were supposed to act -- they worked in "men's work," they made their own decisions while married, they worked as partners with their husbands, and most of all they trained their daughters and sons to understand that women have an equal place at the table.
