(10,709 posts)... and who doesn't love Jim Hightower. We could keep going though.... Who remembers our dear dear Henry Gonzalez who served on the banking committee? (I say "our", though I'm not from Texas.) He told us what was going to happen. I remember sitting up deep into the night listening to Henry on those 1 hour speeches on the floor of the House. He's another one we could go look up in C-Span archives and listen to.

(5,587 posts)Barbara Jordan?! I was 10 years old in '76 when she gave the keynote at the Dem National Convention. I had never heard anyone speak like that (both in topic and intonation) and was absolutely riveted...

(6,151 posts)I'm fortunate to have a nice picture of Barbara Jordan sitting in the middle of the road, wrapped in a flag; I always wondered what she was protesting at the time, but it must've been important.

(243 posts)It looks like she absolutely BECOMES Ann. I was lucky enough several years back to see one of Ann's lectures here in Seattle. She was really something. I sure miss her and Molly.

(75,480 posts)I'm so happy that the time I had to live in Texas (job) she was governor.
Texans. How did y'all fall for that moron Bush?
Ilsa
(62,190 posts)was that Gov. Ann had a problem with someone she had endorsed for Railroad Commissioner. The young woman had been in the job and had done fine, but her credentials turned out to be lies. There was so much bad press about it that I think it had an impact on Ann's campaign.
Meanwhile, Dumbya had just finished building that tax-stealing baseball field in Arlington, so he looked "business-like" and "successful." it was a tough pill to swallow when Ann lost to that moron.

(10,709 posts)... she was the cream of the crop, and Molly Ivans too. I don't know how to upload clips from youtube, but if I did, I would run over and dig up as many clips as I could of both Ann and Molly and add to this thread. So many of our young people don't know about these two wonderful recent women from Texas. There's probably allot of footage on C-Span and National Press Club too. Ann is up there looking down at the great work daughter Cecille is doing with Planned Parenthood with a great big smile on her face.

(10,709 posts).... I'm old and curmudgeonly , but will try to do this this evening. I didn't know it was that easy. This old dog has got to learn these tricks and start really adding to DU instead of just reading and commenting.

(4,104 posts)Ann and Molly are two who make me VERY proud of being a Texan. Amazing women. Smart, funny...the kind of women I'd want to go have a beer or two (or six) with .

(63,017 posts)The best part about her when she was gov was, I would run around townlake and there she would be out walking and talking with some person and anyone and everyone would yell, "Hey Ann!" and she would always respond with a "Howdy".
moron* was always out there with his storm trooper body guards. and I can attest to the fact that no one every said hi to that pile of stupid*.

(2,529 posts)I really liked Ann's put downs. Her showdown with Clayton Williams was classic. I'll always remember her as the last bulwark of good decent leadership in Texas.
