You could add a few blueberries for flavor, or a little honey.
ETA there is a brand called "two good", only 2 grams of sugar.

(430 posts)Some of the "sugar free" ice creams can have a good amount of both natural (milk products) sugars and sugar alcohol. Also pay attention to serving size, 1/2 cup is not a lot of ice cream. I just figured out that my diabetic husband was consuming over 30 grams of sugar in his "serving" of sugar free ice cream.

(9,759 posts)Xylitol etc. Can cause uncomfortable gastric symptoms. Back when Atkins was the rage they said sugar-free candy was ok. Was dying for chocolate and had a couple sugar-free Hershey bars. BIG mistake. No wonder they were allowed on the diet - negative input!

(22,954 posts)I use xylitol all the time and have no side effects... I know that some people do, but if no adverse effects or if building a tolerance works, xylitol is a great low carb sweetener but make sure your dog doesn't get any

(65,395 posts)I'm calling mine next week. I've removed wine and chocolate from my diet because of rising enzymes in my liver but my symptoms persist, even tho there is no pain and I feel good overall. But I can't live on Immodium just so I can safely leave the house.
He'll probably order up more blood tests to see about those enzyme levels. In the meantime, I'm questioning my intake of milk, all fruit, and cereal. I'm very frustrated!

(137,100 posts)Major symptom: THIRST, after pasta etc, so as he said last time I was 'pre-diabetic,' I've concluded, he'll delete the 'pre-' part.
Have cut out regular ice cream (which I may have overdone, this summer,) and bought (haven't cooked yet) whole-grain pasta. Using low carb breads.

(65,395 posts)I started buying the non-chocolate ice creams and quickly found "low sugar" ice creams. they are really good. I especially like combining berried ones with coffee flavored ones.
We eat far too many prepared foods. It's just easier on my and some are so good. I fear my cooking days are over.
However, this weekend hubby is making a big seafood feast: lobster, clams, oysters. Good times!

(137,100 posts)Have lots of it around here, especially crab cakes and Maryland crab +vege soup!
WHICH low sugar ice creams do you like? I haven't found a 'favorite.'

(65,395 posts)Breyers. He's not for exotic stuff. Way too boring for me. I do like pistachio and I love coffee (I make my own lattes as I found myself in Starbucks way too often and was busting my food budget!).

(5,489 posts)Fat-free Greek yogurt and fresh blackberries, strawberries, or red raspberries.
Use a little stevia for sweeting, very delicious and very healthy for you.
If you want extra calories, you can use full fat yogurt.
I like Stoneyfield or Trader's Greek yogurt.

(5,489 posts)Stonyfield is organic and the only ingredient is cultured organic milk. Makes reading
the ingredients easy!. Even the fat-free version I use is very creamy and satisfies.
I buy it by the quart. It will last ups to two weeks, no problem and makes it
very economical. I eat it pretty much everyday.

(5,489 posts)It is 7g per cup. My servings are 1/3 to 1/2 cup, so minimal impact. Also loaded with protein,
22g per cup.

(2,625 posts)There might be some sugar free dairy deserts but on the store shelves all you'll find is no sugar added.
Don't trust any yogurt before reading the ingredients. Some of them have over 30 grams of sugar per serving and over 20 grams is normal.
Plain yogurt doesn't have added sugar. Some fruit jams are very low in sugar. Mix the two.
Fruit and cottage cheese or plain yogurt is my go to sweet now. As you stop eating refined sugars you will become more sensitive to the natural sweetness of different foods.
Oh, limit fruit juices to one small a day. removing the fiber concentrates the natural sugars.
