Ex-drug execs get over 2 years in prison for bribery scheme
January 21, 2020
BOSTON (AP) Two former drug company executives were sentenced Tuesday to more than two years in federal prison in a bribery and kickbacks scheme that prosecutors say helped fuel the opioid crisis.
Richard Simon, a Seal Beach, California, resident and the former national sales director at Insys Therapeutics, was sentenced in federal court in Boston to 33 months in prison.
Joseph Rowan, a Panama City, Florida, resident and former regional sales director for the Chandler, Arizona-based company, was sentenced to 27 months.
Each was also ordered to serve three years of probation after prison time, forfeit more than $2 million and pay restitution, which will be determined later.
Prosecutors had sought more than 10 years in prison for each, while lawyers for the two had argued for a year or less. Simons attorney declined to comment. Rowans attorney didnt respond to an email seeking comment.
