Coronavirus: Even in the US, its not over yet
((Note: The 7-day US nationwide statistics are from the daily views of the JHU website at around 5 pm. I also daily do a morning count of data on state websites (or other reliable info, e.g. for IA I use one stations prior-day report on the state websites counts as of 10 am). Some states use confirmed cases, others total cases, so please dont try to add the states together.))
Again, its not over yet in the US. From 20 May to 27 May, JHU indicated the US added 157020 cases and 4490 deaths. There are some add-ins of previously uncounted deaths, most noticeably Maryland that added nearly 600 deaths after a review, but I expect most of the nationwide reports refer to those uninfected at the start of spring.
Even though the weekly growth in reported cases in a locality has generally fallen under 2% of cumulative cases, sporadic jumps of as much as 10% are still occurring in a few localities.
Some states reported many more cases than others during the time from the morning of 20 May 2021 to the morning of 27 May. In order, the newly reported cases:
FL 16534
TX 10388
PA 8943
NY 8175
IL 8046
WA 6267
MI 6433
OH 6046
NC 6020
CO 5728
IN 4415
AZ 3733
MN 3723
KY 3018
OR 2997
GA 2943
LA 2809
VA 2523
TN 2505
MA 2395
NJ 2364
WI 2151
MD 2011
MO 2004
AL 1940
UT 1660
WV 1628
NV 1533
SC 1480
MS 1174
KS 1129
AR 1109
NM 1081
IA 1080
CT 1032
ID 1026
OK 1023
ME 979
RI 843
DE 576
NE 521
NH 492
WY 485
MT 462
ND 418
HI 389
AK 363
SD 207
VT 174
DC 182
And, its not evenly distributed within a state. The reporting localities can vary, with large raw number increases tending to be in more populous areas ((but not always)) while other counties/areas report tiny increases, no change, or even decreases as reported cases are removed after review. The increases can be influenced by backlogs of cases FINALLY being reported.
Rises of 1000+ reported cases in a week:
AZ Maricopa 2594
CA LA County 1236
CO El Paso 1149
HI Oahu 1033
IL Chicago 1699
IL Cook 2267
NV Clark 1000
TX Harris 1812
Now that most states have removed restrictions, what will the reporting look like by Fathers Day? Stay tuned.
((And PLEASE stay covered up until at least 4 July.))

(113,118 posts)If you go county by county, state by state, the fastest spread and largest number of cases per 100,000 people correlates to the lower percentages of vaccinated people. Funny how that works. And just who isn't getting vaccinated? Right, Republicans.
