Related: About this forumMore on the weirdness and unpredictability of COVID - our saga continues.
To summarize - my wife and I (65 and as of today, 67) are double vaxxed (she Pfizer, me Moderna) and triple boosted - we stayed with our same brands. We escaped COVID for nearly three years, but I tested positive (first home, then the next day, doc office) on January 3 - my wife tested positive on Jan 8. We both went on Paxlovid - me on Jan 4, she on Jan 9.
My initial symptoms were a bit worse - sore/scratchy throat, hoarse, post nasal drip, low grade fever, loss of taste, general sluggishness. Sue's were similar but milder. Paxlovid (which did give both of a bad background bitter/metallic taste) worked quickly for both of us - symptoms largely eased within a few days of treatment start.
I've felt fine pretty much since the end of the treatment - sense of taste is nearly fully back - still some post nasal drip. Sue home tested positive again a few days ago (I home tested negative) - she's felt worse the last two days than when she first had it, but seems a bit better today - really a bad cold type set of symptoms, with sinus pain and headache - and loss of sense of taste. My guess is she will be totally symptom free in a few days.
But - this is one weird virus - symptoms come and go once you have it - symptoms vary person to person, and even hour to hour. I didn't rebound, my wife did.
Just thought I'd share our "adventure" with this pesty virus.
Hoping all of you are staying well and safe.

(13,507 posts)I caught it in aug at a doctors office. Unmasked cougher near me and i didn't have a mask on. Didn't know about breakthrough cases. Was double marked and coughed on yesterday. Now I'm worried again.
I'm still not sure my taste is back 100%

(34,443 posts)I also managed to avoid Covid all this time (got all vaxes and boosters, took proper precautions ) up until right before Christmas.
My symptoms were mostly like having a bad cold for 3 days
One really weird symptom I had was a very bad backache. It lasted 2 days then, poof, it was gone. Taking ibuprofen barely took the edge off. Weird!

(3,061 posts)Lower back pain. I chalked it up to becoming and old(er) lady. Then got a sore throat the next day that moved into my chest the day after (which is the day I tested positive). Also just got it after three years of dodging the virus.

(2,545 posts)He took Paxloved very early on. He was pretty rough at first but got better and on day 10 he tested negative so I let him out of isolation. 😂We watched movies had a great time over the weekend and then on Sunday night he started to get the nasal drip again. He freaked out, tested positive and had a fairly uncomfortable relapse. After another five days he was pretty good to go. Still got tired but without cough or sore throat. Unfortunately The rest of the family tested positive several days later. Im so sorry shes dealing with this. Sending love and healing thoughts. You two will be out and about before you know it. 🙏💗💐

(62,192 posts)to get the bivalent booster. My arm was sore last evening, but my sleep was horrible. I couldn't get comfortable, felt achy, and had a headache this morning when I woke up. Yes, I felt and still feel awful. Thank goodness for the vaccine, though. The illness must be a thousand times worse.
I hope you both get back to 100% quickly.

(19,606 posts)I'm sorry Sue had a rebound.
Everyone seems to be catching it this round. I still have a slight cough from it a month later.
