Related: About this forumI got my 2nd Shingrix vax yesterday morning.
First one was 2 months ago and all I got was a very mild sore arm.
I felt fine yesterday, not even a sore arm. I went to sleep at my normal time. Then, I woke up at 2:12am hurting everywhere and feeling like a death warmed over. Couldn't get back to sleep because I felt so rotten. So I watched videos and sipped water until time to get up.
The nurse told me whatever happens will only last for 24 hours. Hopefully she's right. I have a house guest coming on Friday and need to get some stuff done. Guess it will have to wait.
Husband got his at the same time and is fine today. But it had been a lot longer since his first one. I wonder if that makes a difference.
In any case, I'm glad we're both protected now!

(107,012 posts)Varicella vaccines are known to be a bit more reactogenic, but at least you are protected.

(14,840 posts)I reacted so badly to the flu shot that my doc told me not to get another one over 20 years ago. Finally got convinced last year that they've changed a lot over the years, so I tried again and got another bad reaction. Once again, doc told me to skip it.
Covid was no biggie, which is surprising. Nothing with TDAP either.
I do want to get the pneumonia vax after a month or two. I'll see what my doc has to say about that.
My body is strange and didn't read the book, I guess.
Yep, glad to be protected. I'll just hang out here or take some naps.

(3,685 posts)Fever, chills, nausea and a horrible headache. Awake all night in misery, but I knew it wouldnt last! Headache lasted the full 24, but when it passed, I felt great quite quickly.
Knowing it would end was a comfort. I hope you feel better fast.
Its better than getting shingles, for sure.

Yep, better than getting shingles, and I've waited a long time for the OK from my doc.

(3,685 posts)But I was warned that this might be different. So not much surprise.

(15,055 posts)last Thursday and was told to expect a stronger response than the first one. He was certainly correct. I felt okay the day I got the shot last week, then Friday night I hurt all over, then next couple nights had night sweats so bad I had to wash the sheets twice. Also had nausea as well as being extremely tired. I finally looked up side effects of shot and found all my symptoms listed. This is the first day I have felt normal. My arm was barely sore though😊.

(14,840 posts)Yikes! I'm glad you're doing better.
I'm mostly sore all over and very tired and have a headache. I'm thirsty and am drinking plenty of water. Right now, I'm having some watermelon, which really seems to be doing the trick.
Brave of you to look up the side effects. I usually don't want to know.

(15,055 posts)up until after several days of not feeling well. I dont know if it matters, but I take medication that suppresses my immune system and am a small woman. Have no clue if it effected my reaction. Never had this type reaction with any Covid vaccines I got.

(14,840 posts)I don't take medicine, but am also a small woman.
This is definitely worse than any Covid vax for me.

(14,840 posts)Guess I'll go for 48. I do feel like I could sleep a little, so that's an improvement.

(14,840 posts)Which one did you get? I had Pfizer 5 times.
You are right, it's totally worth it. I have been waiting for almost a year to be able to do this. Doc didn't want me to do it while I was getting all those Covid vaccines.

(14,840 posts)Yep, it's sort of bad. But I feel protected now and am glad I did it. Might need another 24 hours though.

(14,840 posts)We are both on a Medicare Advantage plan. From what I've read, it's free if you have Medicare Advantage or Part D. Looks like something changed in 2023. Might want to just call the pharmacy. They'd know.

(113,131 posts)good enough that you might have gotten back to sleep after an hour of kitty vids or whatever.
My worst one was the pneumonia shot when I was just getting over the third pneumonia that year. Proximity to illness or prior vaccination can make a difference since your immune system overreacts to something it sees as reinfection with a bug it just disposed of.
