Related: About this forumWell tomorrow at 8:00am I'll be getting my 2nd total knee replacement.....
Had the first one (left) done 5 years ago. Really should have had this one (right) done 2 years ago. But issues arose that didnt allow till now, and Im soooooooo nervous not really for the surgery, but all the stuff afterwards. All the PT appts, how Im gonna drive to the store for food. Drugs to pick up from pharmacy for husband and me. Just all the living well have to do and both of us will do it with walkers!!!! Ugh, just dreading it. Oh and of course we get a damn snow storm. Im just so nervous, I want it all to be over and have Spring start. Sorry for being so whiny.

(4,864 posts)but I need to wait until some upcoming trips are behind me. My second knee will be the end for me-- I've done both hips, both shoulders, and one knee.
I know exactly the things you're dreading, but a month from now you'll be well on your way to the rest of a pain-free life! Congratulations! 💥💥💥

(34,927 posts)However once you get through it it should be better. I had both of mine done 10 years ago and so far so good. I know how you feel with the pre-operation pre-procedure pre-recovery nervousness. Get the doctor to give you something if you need it, the best of luck and outcomes for you

(29,639 posts)as I am also facing my 2nd knee replacement, though mine is as yet unscheduled.
You mentioned the difficulty of getting around, especially with the snow -- Have you considered putting it off until the Spring?..That's what I'm doing..It could be a lot easier for you.

(31,858 posts)trying to get it done ..I really didnt think of the weather, I just wanted to get it done, and now, we are in winter. Ill just suck it up and be so happy when its over.

(29,639 posts)with the doctor's offices being less than pleased, but that said, I think it's best to do what works for you, since you're the one going through the ordeal.
I'm just wondering -- If your husband also has mobility issues, is there a friend, neighbor or relative who can help you out with driving and shopping, etc??

(31,858 posts)anything, so I might do that.

(399 posts)I had my second one done last year. I recommend calling in all your friends for rides to PT, groceries, meals, ice runs, etc. Its difficult for me to ask for help but I did and friends and family really stepped up. I hope your experiences are as good as mine.

(113,093 posts)This stuff can be scary. If you haven't seen the videos of the surgery, postpone them until 6 months from now. Trust me on this.
The hardest part will be day after tomorrow, when you get out of bed for the first time, your toughest trip.
Rehab goes astonishingly quickly. When PT gives you exercises to do, be sure to do them. They will shorten your recovery.

(31,858 posts)Actually doing pretty good......taking pain meds, have started my home exercises, and feeling pretty good. Got my 1st PT appointment tomorrow hopefully I wont have to cancel as were in line for possible 8 - 12 inches of snow. Cant believe all the drugs I might have to take.......yikes. 3 pain meds, and a few other for other side effects. A ton of paperwork with all the possible side effects. Wow. So on my way to walking, and doing things I couldnt do before. Thanks for the interest.
