because he hates any signs of injury on himself or others. He won't want to appear in public with a mangled ear; he also won't want to be seen with a bandage on it, since either thing is a sign of imperfection and damage. He will have to figure out a way to milk the injury for financial and political gain without letting the public actually see it, especially if it's all shredded and ugly.

It will be a tough for him, because he is so vain and self centered.
